Annual Orchid Show featuring Garden Plant Sale

The Annual Orchid Show at Raby Castle, now in its 15th year, will feature a spectacular display of beautiful Orchids including exotic hybrid species. Visitors will have the opportunity to talk to the experts, attend lectures and demonstrations for advice on how to make the most of their orchids. A handpicked selection of local plant nurseries will also be in attendance, selling garden plants from the Coach Yard in the grounds Raby Castle in a new addition to the Orchid Show. The show at Raby has become one of the most significant orchid shows in the north. The North East of England and Darlington Orchid Societies along with the Orchid Society of Great Britain will be in attendance, as well as orchid growers and sellers from around England and Europe.

This dramatic medieval castle, built by the mighty Nevill family has been home to Lord Barnard’s family since 1626. Set within a large deer park, with delightful rolling landscape and walled gardens it is by far one of the most impressive castles in England. Uncover history in the halls and chambers which house fabulous interiors, art collections and dramatic architecture. Open to the public between May and September each year, with special events throughout the season.

Fancy Dress Judging at 1.30pm (In the Village Field next to the Hall) (Categories: Under 5’s, 5-7yrs, 8-11yrs, 12-16yrs, Adults & Groups) Carnival opened at 2pm Followed by Fancy dress parade Usual Fun & Games on-going all afternoon Magic Show, Punch & Judy, Home-made Teas Tombola, Raffle, Skittles, Coconut Shy & lots more. EGGLESTON VILLAGE CARNIVAL

ROMALDKIRK VILLAGE GARDENS

Home-made teas in The Reading Room, opp the Rose and Crown Hotel. A group of 8 gardens of great variety. Most gardens are clustered around the village greens. Some are a short walk/drive to the edge of the village. Romaldkirk is an interesting, old fashioned village with a water pump, stocks and attractive church of St Romald. Some gardens are typical cottage gardens with herbaceous borders, another larger garden incls a pond and grotto, one has lawns, a rockery and interesting shrubs.
