"Just pulling up in the car outside the cottage I knew it was going to be lovely and I was right. Everything was spotless and clean. The welcome pack was an added bonus too. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the equipment you would ever need for your stay. Romaldkirk is lovely, loads of stunning walks. The Fox and Hounds pub is a very friendly place and food is wonderful but try and pre book as they are busy. Loads to see and do from this location and we will definitely be going back. Finally, it is a dog lovers paradise! Enjoy!!"

"Caroline Cottage was spotlessly clean upon arrival. It is a wonderful cottage set in the most beautiful, peaceful village. Two pubs, the Rose and Crown, is a highly rated foodie pub and we were so lucky to get a table. I suggest you book in advance. Excellent food and service. We had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend this cottage/holiday home. Very traditional and comfortable for exploring the area. Barnard Castle was lovely. Raby Castle and High Force waterfall (lower and upper) all amazing. Thank you x"

"My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The cottage is next door to a quaint old pub and facing the village green. It was spotless on arrival and has a well equipped kitchen, charming dining room and comfortable lounge with a log burner. There is also a spare bedroom and a backyard. There were some excellent walks, perfect for our dog, to Cotherstone and also Mickleton, where we enjoyed refreshments at the Blacksmiths Arms. Also visited nearby Barnard Castle and High Force/Low Force waterfalls, plus enjoyed meals at The Moorcock Inn at Eggleston and The High Force Hotel. The two village pubs are as different as chalk and cheese: one is high-end though rather pricey whilst the other has an utterly laid-back, friendly landlord with a slightly eccentric air about him 🙂 Overall, highly recommended."

"A lovely little holiday cottage looking out over a large traditional village green. The cottage was very well presented and warm on a very cold week. The village is full of characterful stone cottages and church. There are a wide selection of footpaths including a disused railway. The pub next to the cottage was quiet and there is a hotel across the road which serves moderately priced but very nice meals. There are a number of castle and abbey ruins in the area, including the nearby castle at Barnard Castle. Also worth visiting is the waterfall at High Force."

"A cozy and deceptively large cottage. It has a lovely “cottagey” feel and was immaculately clean. The furniture is in keeping with its character and it has all the mod cons needed for modern day living. I am partially disabled and I found the sofa and bed were extremely comfortable. The cottage has a lovely spacious modern and user friendly bathroom and a well equipped galley kitchen with a secure back yard ( I used this to keep my scooter safe).
Romaldkirk is a beautiful village. I found the local people were very welcoming and helpful. Caroline Cottage is in the heart of the village surrounded by village greens which are very well kept. The church is close by and is well worth a visit. I was a lone traveller with a small dog and I felt very safe there. The owner of the cottage, Gillian Macfarlane, is very approachable and was always available to answer any queries promptly (I couldn’t switch the oven on!). I stayed for ten days and I didn’t want to come home. I will be a repeat visitor to Caroline Cottage and cannot wait for my next break."

"From the moment we arrived we felt at home. There was a lovely card and welcome gift waiting for us on the dining room table, and the cottage itself was immaculately clean. Everything we could possibly need was there. The fully fitted kitchen had all the utensils required to easily prepare meals and there was even a washing machine to wash my clothes after a particularly wet and windy walk! The bedrooms were beautiful. There was a lovely window seat in the twin room which was quite perfect for reading! The cottage is in a perfect location for walks. From the doorstep, to walks further afield, the area is quite beautiful. High Force was a mere 10-15minute drive away. We also enjoyed frequent visits to Barnard Castle which offers a handful of quirky little shops and lovely tea rooms."

"A lovely, excellently equipped cottage in a most serene and scenic part of the country side. Just relaxing, reading a book with the log fire burning and the tick of the clock in the background was such a stress releasing tonic that we both nodded off from time to time. The local countryside makes for great exploration and we were lucky to be there at lambing time, some which followed us a while on our walks. We found the cottage clean throughout with all the facilities in very good order and practical. Everyone we met was warm and friendly. We will definitely go back again and would highly recommend Caroline Cottage as a superb location and property to have a great break away from life in the City."

"The best holiday cottage we have ever stayed at! We felt at home the minute we arrived, you have thought of everything to make our stay just perfect! Fabulous views over the village green of Romaldkirk and great walks on the doorstep and only a few miles from Barnard Castle. We will definitely be booking this holiday cottage again as we didn’t have time to visit everywhere we wanted… And two pubs only metres away, we really were spoilt for choice at this holiday cottage."
