A lovely little cottage looking out over a large village green. The cottage was well presented and warm on a very cold week. The village is full of characterful stone cottages and church. There are a wide selection of footpaths including a disused railway. The pub next to the cottage was quiet and there is a hotel across the road which serves moderately priced but very nice meals. There are a number of castle and abbey ruins in the area including the nearby castle at Barnard Castle. Also worth visiting is the waterfall at High Force.

We have just had a lovely break in Caroline Cottage . Spacious , clean , well equipped ,an exceptionally comfortable bed , and in a great position on the edge of the village green. There are numerous walks from the door , all different , and all splendid . And a regular bus service back if you walk too far . If you like peace and quiet , countryside and wildlife , and friendly locals , this is the place for you.

A cozy and deceptively large cottage. It has a lovely “cottagey” feel and was immaculately clean. The furniture is in keeping with its character and it has all the mod cons needed for modern day living. I am partially disabled and I found the sofa and bed were extremely comfortable. The cottage has a lovely spacious modern and user friendly bathroom and a well equipped galley kitchen with a secure back yard ( I used this to keep my scooter safe).

Romaldkirk is a beautiful village. I found the local people were very welcoming and helpful. Caroline Cottage is in the heart of the village surrounded by village greens which are very well kept. The church is close by and is well worth a visit. I was a lone traveller with a small dog and I felt very safe there. The owner of the cottage, Gillian Macfarlane, is very approachable and was always available to answer any queries promptly (I couldn’t switch the oven on!). I stayed for ten days and I didn’t want to come home. I will be a repeat visitor to Caroline Cottage and cannot wait for my next break.

A lovely, excellently equipped cottage in a most serene and scenic part of the country side. Just relaxing, reading a book with the log fire burning and the tick of the clock in the background was such a stress releasing tonic that we both nodded off from time to time. The local countryside makes for great exploration and we were lucky to be there at lambing time, some which followed us a while on our walks. We found the cottage clean throughout with all the facilities in very good order and practical. Everyone we met was warm and friendly. We will definitely go back again and would highly recommend Caroline Cottage as a superb location and property to have a great break away from life in the City.

From the moment we entered Caroline Cottage we felt at home. Loved sitting in front of the log fire on an evening and walking during the day. We loved High Force and had a wonderful day at Beamish. Thank you so much for making our holiday special.

Thank you Thank you!! This has to be the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed at, we adored the window seat in the front lounge overlooking for village green, the beds were so comfy, the cottage is equipped with everything we needed. And the local pubs in the village were great! We will be back.

The best holiday cottage we have ever stayed at! We felt at home the minute we arrived, you have thought of everything to make our stay just perfect! Fabulous views over the village green of Romaldkirk and great walks on the doorstep and only a few miles from Barnard Castle. We will definitely be booking this holiday cottage again as we didn’t have time to visit everywhere we wanted… And two pubs only metres away, we really were spoilt for choice at this holiday cottage.

From the moment we arrived we felt at home. There was a lovely card and welcome gift waiting for us on the dining room table, and the cottage itself was immaculately clean. Everything we could possibly need was there. The fully fitted kitchen had all the utensils required to easily prepare meals and there was even a washing machine to wash my clothes after a particularly wet and windy walk! The bedrooms were beautiful. There was a lovely window seat in the twin room which was quite perfect for reading! The cottage is in a perfect location for walks. From the doorstep, to walks further afield, the area is quite beautiful. High Force was a mere 10-15minute drive away. We also enjoyed frequent visits to Barnard Castle which offers a handful of quirky little shops and lovely tea rooms.
